Sabbatical leave of up to one year may be granted to contractual personnel, under provisions of state law, for the purpose of study or travel which will benefit the institution, students, and employee. Employees on long-term sabbatical leave are ineligible to work on an extra-service contract basis (See Board Policy Manual, section DEC). Faculty on a short-term sabbatical “may teach one summer session at the extra service rate” as provided in the Board Policy Manual, section DJ. An administrator’s salary shall remain in effect while on a short-term sabbatical.” ADMINISTRATORS: 1. Requests for sabbatical from Administrators are completed and submitted in written memorandum form by the employee prior to November 1 preceding the academic year in which the leave is requested. 2. The President will review and forward the request to the Chancellor prior to November 15. 3. Sabbatical requests require approval by the Board of Trustees prior to the sabbatical beginning. FACULTY: 1. Submit proposal for faculty sabbaticals to the Faculty Association President. 2. The College Faculty Sabbatical Review Committee (see Board Policy Manual, section DEC) will review proposals and provide feedback to applicants prior to submission to the Vice President of Instruction. 3. The Vice President of Instruction forwards proposals to the President who in turn will forward proposals to the Chancellor prior to November 15. Applications for short-term sabbaticals are submitted to the office of the Vice Chancellor for Educational Affairs by November 14. Evaluation of proposals are made by the same committees as long-term sabbaticals. Recommendations for approval of short-term sabbaticals are made to the Board at its February meeting. (Board Policy Manual, section DEC). |
