Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) program is required by state law to ensure students enrolled in Texas public colleges possess the academic skills needed to perform effectively in college-level coursework. TSI includes a testing component designed to identify and provide information about your reading, writing and math skills.
After you are admitted to Brookhaven College, you must either present scores from an assessment test associated with the TSI program or claim exemption.
Please note: Students who are not exempt from TSI requirements must first take the TSI Assessment. Before taking the TSI Assessment, students will participate in the online Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA).
Taking the TSI
The TSI Assessment is an untimed, computerized assessment of reading, writing and math skills and is administered in the Testing Center
. A photo ID and testing referral is required to take the assessment. Depending on the number of TSI sections to be administered, students may take their exam during the following hours:
3 sections: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
2 sections: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
1 section: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Friday and Saturday
3 sections: 8-11:30 a.m.
2 sections: 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
1 section: 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Upon completion of the TSI Assessment, your scores will be immediately available to you. Collect all required TSI scores and proceed to Advising Center
where an academic advisor will interpret your assessment scores and assist you with course selection.
