We are pleased you are planning to attend Brookhaven College. The Financial Aid Office is committed to assisting you in obtaining the necessary financing to achieve your educational goals.

We assist students by awarding financial aid for post-secondary education. Financial aid is awarded as grants, scholarships and loans from various federal, state, institutional and private sources, as well as through on-campus student employment. Financial aid is available to students with and without financial need.

Important

Processing time on all incoming documents is 30-45 business days (6-8 weeks) from the date it is received in the Financial Aid Office.

FAFSA Help Sessions

Help sessions are available in the Financial Aid Office on Tuesdays from 3 to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m.

Loans

In order to participate in the Federal Loan program, students must complete the following:

  1. Complete your FAFSA application (BHC code 014471)
  2. Complete Loan Entrance Counseling
  3. Complete your Master Promissory Note
  4. Submit your Loan Request Form to bhcFAVA@dcccd.edu
  5. Apply for the Higher One Card
  6. Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Brookhaven College
All students must be eligible to participate in the Federal Financial Aid Program. Other eligibility criteria will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Office.

Loans will not be available to pay tuition and books. Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing. You will receive an e-mail notification once your request is processed.


  • Loan Exit Counseling

    Borrowers must complete a loan exit counseling session during the last semester before transferring or leaving the college that awarded the student's loans. You may complete the loan exit counseling online at either the Mapping Your Future website or at the U.S. Department of Education's National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) website.

  • Financial aid forms

    (You may also go to under eConnect Menu under Credit Student Menu, then view your FA Missing Information Letter to see which forms you need to submit our FA Office.) You will need Adobe Reader Software (available for free) to view and print these forms.

    Disbursement dates for remaining funds

    If you receive a financial aid award before your credit classes start:

    • Any tuition you owe will be deducted from your award. Tuition will not be deducted earlier than 10 days before the first day of classes.
    • You will receive an initial disbursement (if eligible), unless there are blocks on your student record (for example, if you have an outstanding balance from a previous semester). You can use the initial disbursement to buy books and supplies for your classes. You will not reeive this money any earlier than 10 days before the start of classes.
    • You will receive any remaining funds eligible for release after the financial aid lock date and after beginning attendance has been certified by each of your instructors.

    Apply for financial aid online

    1. Request your personal PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov.
    2. Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov with Brookhaven College school code: 014471.
    3. Use FAFSA4caster at www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov to begin exploring your financial aid options and get an early start on the financial aid process.

    Receiving your financial aid through eConnect

    1. Select a program of study.
    2. Accept your financial aid award letter.
    3. Set up your disbursement method (method of payment). (i.e., OneAccount, direct deposit or check). You can set up your preferred disbursement/refund option as soon as you receive your DCCCD Money Card.
