Scholarships
Brookhaven College is strongly committed to providing accessible higher education for our community.
Scholarship funds are abundant and are awarded on the basis of a wide variety of criteria, for
instance:
- merit
- leadership
- academic achievement
- achievement test scores
- career choice
- heritage
Collegiate scholarships are posted on the bulletin board outside the Financial Aid Office and/or on
this page below. Throughout the academic year, the Financial Aid Office receives scholarship
information from private organizations within the community. There also are many scholarships only
available through the
DCCCD Foundation.
Loans
The process for applying for and accepting federal loans has changed. Students interested in a federal
loan MUST attend a loan counseling session. The loan sessions will be published closer to the beginning
of the Fall term.
Your federal loans may be eligible for the
Federal Loan Consolidation Program
(pdf).
Work-Study Programs
To apply for on-campus student employment positions, a financial aid application is necessary to
determine whether wages are paid from the need-based Federal Work-Study Program or from institutional
funds. Usually students are paid minimum wage, currently $7 per hour, and may work no more than 18.5
hours per week.
Many on-campus jobs are available, but students must apply, interview and be selected by a hiring unit.
To seek employment, students should come to the Financial Aid Office to obtain a student employment
referral review package. Work-study students are required to set up a direct deposit account with a bank
in order to receive their pay.
AmeriCorps gives students opportunities to receive funds in exchange for service to the community. To read
more about the program, visit
