Brookhaven College, Student Services Center and police badges

Police officers of the Brookhaven College Police Department are duly sworn peace officers under section 51.203 of the Texas Educational Code. The officers of the department are armed and possess the same authority under the law as municipal officers. Brookhaven College police officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They enforce the law, arrest violators, investigate and deter crime, investigate traffic accidents and provide a full range of services to the college community.

Brookhaven College police officers are available to provide escorts and assist with vehicle battery jump requests. Officers trained in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care to respond to medical emergencies. All department officers regularly attend courses and in-service training approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education to receive updates on current regulations and legislative changes.

College Police Issue City Citations for Farmers Branch

The Brookhaven College Police Department officers can issue city citations for Farmers Branch on college property in addition to college citations. Whether to issue a city or college citation is left up to the discretion of the police officers.

Federal Campus Sexual Assault Violence Elimination Act

In March 2013, a new Campus Sexual Assault Violence Elimination Act was passed that updates the Jeanne Clery Act to create transparency, accountability, education and collaboration. The act seeks to address the violence women face on campus.
