A Message from the Chief of Police

David L. Reagan,
Chief of Police

Welcome to the Brookhaven College Police Department’s Web site. Our Internet presence reflects our department’s community policing philosophy and our commitment to providing the best service possible.

The mission of the Brookhaven College Police Department is to protect life and property within the Dallas County Community College District, to maintain a positive academic environment, and to provide professional support services to the college community.

The responsibility for the overall direction and focus of law enforcement and crime prevention rests with the office of the chief of police. Chief David L. Reagan is a career police officer, with more than 32 years of experience. Before taking over the chief’s position at Brookhaven College, Chief Reagan worked for the Fort Worth Police Department. Chief Reagan began his career as a patrol officer in 1972, and retired in 1997 as deputy chief.

Since coming to Brookhaven College, several changes were initiated to improve the quality of police services, which began with the implementation of community policing programs. A mountain bike patrol unit was formed to increase patrol officer visibility, response time and officer approachability. A crime prevention program was implemented, including the assignment of a crime prevention officer. This officer is responsible for providing crime awareness information to the college community through information brochures, classroom lectures and community events. These events have included the “Season to be Sober” Drinking and Driving Awareness Week, and the “Get a Lock on Safety” Crime Awareness Week. The purpose of these events is to increase our students’ awareness of important issues that could have a dramatic impact on their lives. The events have been very successful and will continue to be presented during the fall and spring semesters.

We are planning for implementation of additional community policing efforts in the near future. These projects include a “Campus Crime Watch” consisting of faculty and staff members who will assist the Police Department by reporting suspicious activity. These individuals will receive orientation training through the Police Department, including types of activity to look for and how to report it.

We hope you find our Web site useful and informative. As special topics or problems arise we will make that information available. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments. I look forward to working together to create a safe and secure college environment.

David L. Reagan
