Emergency call boxes situated around campus make it quick and convenient to request personal assistance, report suspicious activity and help prevent crime on campus.

Rape Aggression Defense

A self-defense program available to Brookhaven College students and employees is the Rape Aggression Defense System, RAD. The RAD System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on self-defense training. Policy Statement Addressing Timely Warnings

In the event that a situation arises, either on or off campus, that, in the judgment of the Chief of College Police, constitutes an ongoing or continuing threat, a campus wide “timely warning” will be issued. The warning will be issued through the college e-mail system to students, faculty, staff and/or the campus’ student newspaper, The Brookhaven Courier. Depending on the particular circumstances of the crime, especially in all situations that could pose an immediate threat to the community and individuals, the necessary information will be posted on the Web site http://www.dcccd.edu providing the College community with more immediate notification. Anyone with information warranting a timely warning should report the circumstances to the College Police office, by phone at 972-860-4290 or in person at the College Police Department, Building B, Room B200.

Crime Reporting Emergency Procedures

The Brookhaven College Police Department is responsible for reporting, investigating and disseminating information on all incidents, injuries and emergency situations to the appropriate college administrator or outside agency.

  • Visit the Police Department office in Building B, Room B200. If you arrive at the office while staff is out, use the red phone on the wall next to the office door to call for assistance.
  • From phones that are part of the campus phone system, call 9-1-1. Phones on the campus phone system have numbers which begin with 972-860-.
  • From phones that are not part of the campus phone system, call 972-860-4290.

All offenses occurring on campus should be reported and, upon notification, an officer will respond to investigate. All reported incidents will be handled in a timely and appropriate manner.

Every effort is made to keep the college community informed on a timely basis of campus crimes and crime-related incidents. Each student, faculty and staff.

Weapons on Campus

No student, faculty, staff* member or visitor is allowed to carry a lethal weapon on the Brookhaven College campus. This includes storage or transportation of weapons in vehicles and possession of lethal weapons for the purpose of classroom projects or demonstration without the prior express consent of the chief of police.

* College police officers are exempt in accordance with laws of the state of Texas and DCCCD Policies.
