What is Rape Aggression Defense?

The Rape Aggression Defense System, RAD, is a program of realisticself-defense tactics and techniques developed for women.

The RAD System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on self-defense training.

The RAD Program is designed to help women overcome the effects of sexual violence by teaching assertiveness, awareness, risk reduction, risk avoidance and physical self-defense options and strategies.

The Brookhaven College Police Department presents the RAD Systems program free of charge to students, faculty, and staff. The RAD course is taught by certified RAD instructors and will provide each student with a workbook/reference manual. This manual outlines the entire RAD Physical Defense System for reference and continuous growth.

The minimum number of participants required is five. The maximum is 10. Class dates will be determined when the minimum number of participants have registered, and you’ll be notified with date and time by e-mail.

RAD Physical Defense Systems Profile

RAD is the national standard in self-defense instructor certification and is internationally recognized for program quality and organizational commitment to excellence. RAD Systems balances the needs of women to acquire self-defense education in a relatively short period of time, with the life long commitment required for physical skill mastery. How? By providing short-term training opportunities in a progressive building block format, and combining each with the RAD Trademark Lifetime Return and Practice Policy!

Only a unified, extensive network can provide this service, which is honored nationwide and throughout Canada. While other programs and instructors struggle to keep pace, RAD Systems shares lifesaving information with confidence, knowing that the lessons will be continuously reinforced for a lifetime!

Why RAD?

RAD is the largest network of its kind, with more than 2,000 instructors actively teaching at various colleges and institutions today, and almost 4,000 total instructors trained to date. RAD has trained more than 250,000 women since the program began in 1989.

RAD is the only existing program with a free lifetime return and practice policy, honored throughout both the U.S. and Canada.

RAD has developed specialized simulation techniques and equipment for use by certified RAD instructors.

RAD is the only self-defense program ever endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
