Providing instructional support for Brookhaven College students is a key component to being "committed to student success." In an effort to maximize resources to provide comprehensive instructional support, a schedule has been developed that will provide tutoring services in and around instructional labs in a variety of disciplines located throughout the campus. Our diverse staff of trained, certified tutors is here to help Brookhaven Students achieve their academic goals by providing tutoring in a wide range of subjects.
All currently enrolled Brookhaven College students have access to free, open labs staffed with certified, trained tutors throughout the day and early evening. Drop-In tutors are available to assist students with a variety of subjects, including English, ESOL, math, science and more. No appointments are necessary, and students are assisted in small group in labs that are located all around the campus.
Locations and times for Drop-In tutoring are available here. Note: The schedule will be revised each semester and may be revised during the semester, so students are advised to check it periodically.
Additional Grant Supported Assistance
In addition to these services available to all Brookhaven College students, additional one-on-one tutoring or specialized group tutoring may be available to students who qualify for these services through federal grants.
Faculty or coordinators of Career and Technical Education programs interested in requesting tutoring support for the students they serve should contact the Coordinator of Tutorial Services at bhcTutoring@dcccd.edu to develop a schedule for the group. Students with declared majors in one of the Career and Technical Education programs and who meet at least one of the following criteria: Pell Grant recipient, single parent, English as a second language, a male student preparing for a career in child development or nursing, a female student preparing for a career in automotive technology, a displaced homemaker preparing to re-enter the workforce, or a student with a documented disability may be eligible for this grant-funded tutoring.
A form of group tutoring, the Supplemental Learning Program (SLP) is available for selected courses. Tutors attend classes with students and then coordinate review and study sessions. The Supplemental Learning Program (SLP) is arranged by the faculty and division dean, in cooperation with the Coordinator of Tutorial Services where appropriate.
