Tree Campus USA

Tree Campus USA®

Since 2013, Brookhaven College has been recognized annually as a Tree Campus USA® by the Arbor Day Foundation. As of 2017, 364 colleges and universities nationwide had Tree Campus USA designations with the most, 32, found in Texas.

To receive this designation, Brookhaven met five required criteria:

  • A steering committee of community members, including students;
  • A detailed Tree Care Plan;
  • Dedicated annual budget for tree growth and care
  • Observance of Arbor Day; and
  • Service learning opportunities for students, such as volunteering to plant trees.

Our 195 acre campus – located on a former farm – is home to many native and ornamental trees. Bounded by a wild thicket at its southwest corner and a creek along its north side, the “urban forest” is a resource for wildlife as well as our students and our community. Since 2013 Brookhaven College has planted 400 trees.
