General Information

The Brookhaven College Police Department is charged with the personal safety of students, employees and visitors. The Police Department employs 17 commissioned Texas peace officers. The department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patrol of the campus is performed by foot, automobile, T3 and bicycle units.

The Brookhaven College police officers have full arrest and enforcement authority and possess all the powers, privileges and immunities accorded police officers in and by the state of Texas. Sworn personnel are empowered by applicable provisions of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures, Texas Education Code, and the rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Trustees of the Dallas County Community College District.

The city of Farmers Branch Police Department and the Brookhaven College Police Department maintain a concurrent jurisdiction agreement to provide the employees, students and visitors with the best possible protection on campus. The safety of everyone on campus is their primary concern. If you should observe something that needs to be brought to police attention, they can be reached in the following manner:

  1. Dial 972-860-4290 for the Police Communications Center or dial 9-1-1 from campus telephones.
  2. Use an emergency wall phone located in major traffic areas in all buildings.
  3. Use one of the 30 interior red emergency phone.
  4. Use one of the emergency panic buttons.

Testing and Drills

At least once a year, announced and unannounced, fire and tornado drills are carried out as well as active shooter/lock-down and hazardous materials drills. The telephone public address system also will be tested at a minimum of twice a year. Annual training of building coordinators will be conducted to ensure they understand their role during drills and real situations.
