The Art Department offers outstanding foundation-level instruction in classes like drawing, painting, two-and three-dimensional design, art history and more. These classes impart the skills, concepts, creative problem-solving and critical thinking needed to move forward to sophomore-level courses.
The Art Department in the Brookhaven College School of the Arts is dedicated to providing the finest educational environment for art students seeking transfer to four-year institutions, preparing for graduate school, gaining additional professional training and continuing lifelong learning.
Our classrooms and labs were designed with the artist in mind. From the lighting to the equipment to the internal and external spaces, our facilities have everything needed to support creativity in the visual arts. Technology like Formlabs, a 3D printer, Epilog Laser Cutter and a computer lab with the latest software support student learning alongside traditional arts equipment. The college also offers two dedicated galleries where local, national and international artists bring their work on a consistent basis.
Students have the opportunity to earn college credit by taking intensive, special-focus art courses with prominent visiting artists and Brookhaven College faculty during the winter and summer semesters.
The Brookhaven College Art Department believes in an education that supports knowledge and awareness of diverse cultures. Our international program is a special opportunity for students taking art classes. Not only do we bring professors from around the U.S. and other countries to the college to teach, but we also take our classes abroad giving our students an opportunity to experience and learn about art in places like Italy and Scotland.
An important extension of the School of the Arts’ professional and educational activities is active community engagement. Such outreach and partnerships include a community sculpture project with the City of Farmers Branch, workshops for Farmers Branch ISD AP art students, contributions to the hunger-fighting fundraiser Empty Bowls, high school teacher workshops, and working with the Dallas Museum of Arts’ docent program.
Brookhaven College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
