Duck Hawkins is a retired Dallas firefighter with more than 20 years of service as a firefighter/paramedic; he began teaching “ride-out” prep classes in 1986 at Methodist Medical Center. He was awarded the coveted Dallas Fire Department Paramedic of the Year in 1991 and Medic of the Year from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #6796 Civic Award in 1992.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. He first received his paramedic certification in 1981 from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and received his firefighting training from the Dallas Fire Academy in the same year. He became clinical coordinator for the Brookhaven College EMS program in 2010.
He is a licensed paramedic through the National Registry and Texas Department of Health Services, and holds instructor certifications in American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR, EMS, BLS, PALS and ACLS. He serves as coordinator of Continuing Education programs.
