Sonya E. Braddy, M.H.S.A., RHIA, CCS

Sonya E. Braddy became the program coordinator and full-time faculty member in Brookhaven College's Health Information Technology in the Fall of 2017. 

She holds a Master of Health Services Administration (M.H.S.A.) degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., and a Bachelor of Science degree in health records administration from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.

Previous work experience includes serving as the chief of health Information management section and alternate privacy officer with the Department of Veterans Affairs; coding manager at Children's Medical Center in Dallas; health information services administrator and performance improvement coordinator at the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and as a medical/health litigation legal assistant at Butler, Snow, Stevens, O'Mara & Cannada, PLLC.

She has taught health informatics and information management courses at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Hinds Community College, and Tougaloo College in Mississippi and serves as Health Information Management adjunct faculty member with Alabama State University.

She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), and an active member of the American Health Information Management Association, where she has served as a student mentor for many years. She is also an active member of the Texas Health Information Management Association and Dallas/Fort-Worth Health Information Management Association. She served as central liaison on the Board of Directors for Mississippi Health Information Management Association in 2013-14.

She has taught classes in medical terminology, coding and advanced coding at Hinds Community College in Jackson, Miss.; quality management and performance improvement strategies, and revenue cycle and reimbursement management at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.; legal aspects of privacy and security at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Miss.; and the language of medicine, anatomy and physiology, study of diseases, coding and administrative affiliation at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala.
