Faculty & Staff Profiles

Joli Ballew joined the Business and Career Programs Division in 2019. She teaches CIT courses including Fundamentals of Networking, Computer Virtualization, Unix Operating Systems, Windows Client Operating Systems, and Operating Systems Security.

Ballew has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, a secondary Texas teaching certificate, has authored over 55 computer-related books including a dozen published through Microsoft Press, and has written and continues to write for Lynda/LinkedIn Learning. As of late 2019, she has nine published courses.

She previously taught eighth grade mathematics for Burleson, Lancaster, and Garland ISDs. She has 5 years' experience as an adjunct professor at Brookhaven College and has also taught courses at both Eastfield and Richland community colleges.

Jody Cunningham is an Instructional Specialist for Computer Information Technology (since 2017) and has been an adjunct professor since 2010. She is one of the coordinators for the Computer Lab in K103 and assists students in various areas. 

Jody has a master's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas with a specialization in management information systems.  She is also a certified high school math instructor and has 30 graduate hours in mathematics.

She has been a software trainer, senior data analyst, database administrator and has worked in the telecommunications industry with a focus in designing and implementing databases.

Bill Hammerschlag, Ph.D. has been a full-time faculty member since 1986. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University and a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. He was a senior systems designer specializing in industrial microcomputer development at United Technologies prior to joining the Brookhaven College faculty.

Mary Milligan joined the Business Studies Division in August of 2004. She teaches computer information technology courses, specializing in Visual BASIC, C ++ and introduction to computer technology. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in computer science both from Stephen F. Austin State University. She has experience as a trainer with Chubb Computer Services and as a programmer/analyst at Amoco Production Company, now BP Amoco. Mary teaches Visual Basic Net, Java, C++, Computer Literacy, PowerPoint and Access. She also works with Brookhaven's outreach program promoting computer studies as well as the college as a whole at public school career fairs.

Jamie Smith joined the Business and Career Programs Division at Brookhaven College in 2018.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Dallas and holds certifications in Java and Scrum.

He previously served as the lead for computer science and video game design at Singley Academy in Irving ISD.  Prior to teaching, he was a software engineer in the telecommunications industry. His professional interests primarily lie in all aspects of the software development life cycle including soft skills, ethics, integrated development environments, source and version control, programming languages, and Agile practices.  He is a lifetime member of the Association of Computing Machinery and the International Game Developers Association.

Ramiro Villarreal has been a faculty member at Brookhaven College since 1986. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a master’s degree from Texas A&M University with a major in mathematics and minor in electrical engineering. Ramiro served in the Air Force as a voice processing specialist and worked at Texas Instruments as a telecommunications engineer prior to joining the Brookhaven College faculty.

Joselle Williams joined the Business and Career Programs Division at Brookhaven College in 2018. She teaches Computer Information Technology courses, specializing in computer networking and PC support.

Williams has a Bachelor of Arts in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration in management from Amberton University. She also holds professional certifications from Cisco (CCNA) and Microsoft (MCP, MCSA, and MCSE).

Prior to joining Brookhaven, she was an advisor and program manager for community outreach at Tarleton State University. She has also served as the lead instructor for computer networking at Angelina College and Richland College.
