Faculty and Teaching

What are the criteria for teaching at DCCCD?

DCCCD’s criteria, in accordance with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges guidelines, are:

  • a master’s degree in the teaching discipline
  • (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the subject to be taught)
View Credentialing Guidelines by Discipline

Workforce Training

For workforce education courses not designed for transfer:

  • a combination of academic preparation and work experience,
  • including three years of direct or related work experience other than teaching

For developmental courses:

  • a bachelor’s degree in the specific teaching discipline and demonstrated competency
  • (i.e., teaching experience, honors, graduate course work or other related accomplishment)

Teaching Continuing Education Classes

Each DCCCD college hires continuing education instructors independently and has a slightly different process for doing so. Please contact the Continuing Education Office at each location for more information.

You can become a DCCCD adjunct instructor even if you have no prior teaching experience.

Teaching as an adjunct provides an excellent opportunity to gain hours in the classroom.

“I think one of the main reasons I love working for DCCCD is that they encourage all of us to be innovative and to continuously learn new technologies that help our students be successful. I love being in the classroom and having the freedom to teach students how to use state-of-the-art software and equipment in the field of digital media. DCCCD supports its teachers and provides us with tools we need to teach students industry standards.”
