To recognize the generosity and unmatched support of Mr. Ellison Miles to Brookhaven College and the Dallas County Community College District, Building H on the college campus was named for Miles early in 2014.
A plaque graces the building exterior noting the name for the building, and the green marker now includes lettering labeling the “Ellison Miles Building.”
in 2013, the DCCCD Board of Trustees approved a request from Brookhaven College to name a building at the college in Miles’ memory. This marks the first time the college or the DCCCD has named a building to commemorate an individual. The Ellison Miles Building now bears two markers noting the new name of the building outside, and the legacy of Miles’ contributions inside.
Ellison Miles, wildcatter in the oil and gas business and philanthropist, remains the largest individual benefactor of the DCCCD Foundation, with contributions from the Miles Foundation totaling $10 million. Miles’ connection to Brookhaven College came in 1999, when he donated $3.5 million to create a facility dedicated to supporting geology and Earth science education and training for students, educators and industry professionals.
Miles was a strong supporter of education, especially within the DCCCD. His contributions to the Rising Star scholarship program, both personally and from his estate following his death in 2004, remain the most significant individual donations to the endowed fund. He was named Director Emeritus of the DCCCD Foundation Board in 1996, after 20 years of board service.
