On April 28, DJ Sober won't be spinning for Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas Cowboys or Beauty Bar. He'll be rocking a 50th anniversary party in historic Deep Ellum.
The Mayor of Dallas will be there.
Fashion Group International will be there.
Chancellor May will be there.
Curious who the party's for?
El Centro College – the first, and the most metropolitan, Dallas Community College.
Besides one of the best DJs in Dallas, El Centro College's 50th anniversary celebration includes a sit-down dinner, jazz band, silent auction, live entertainment, dancing and a cash bar. The party runs 7 p.m. - midnight at The Bomb Factory (2713 Canton St.) A special VIP reception for dignitaries, community leaders, sponsors and leadership will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Alumni from El Centro College are already finding ways to contribute to the celebration including Paige Bluejacket, who will MC the evening, and two fashion marketing graduates – Molly Johnson and Carly Mauldin – who are decorating the venue entrance. Inside, gold mannequins will represent garments from each decade with apparel from Fashion Design Historic Costume Collection. There will also be a 1966 Mustang on site for auto enthusiasts, complete with its signature "slotted" grille and AM/eight-track sound system. It was the best-selling convertible in 1966, the same year El Centro College opened its doors.
