You Could Win $500! Enter the 2018 Jewish Film Festival

Attention all up-and-coming student filmmakers!

Looking to build your portfolio? Interested in entering a short film competition? Want to win a $500 cash prize? The 22nd Annual Jewish Film Festival, a project of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Dallas, will accept short film submissions for the Emerging Filmmakers Prize until March 1, 2018.

Film Requirements

To enter the film competition your piece must:

  • Reflect some aspect of Jewish life or the Jewish experience, whether historical, religious, cultural or personal
  • Be no longer than 40 minutes in length, including credits
  • Be shot in HD or 1080p format
  • Be submitted as a link to a viewable film (DVDs or sent files are not accepted)

All genres are accepted, including: narrative, documentary and animated. Limit of one submission per applicant. 

Are You Eligible?

To enter the film competition, you must:

  • Be a student enrolled in a DFW-area high school, community college/university or film studies program
  • Be under the age of 25
  • Have a signed permission from a parent or guardian if under the age of 18 

How to Enter

Visit JCC's website for full contest details and to download the application. Submit the completed application and film entry link to, along with the following:

  • A personal statement of no more than 250 words explaining why the Jewish element of your film is important to its creation
  • A brief synopsis of your film
  • A plan for securing any rights that still require clearance, like stock footage, music, etc.

Films are judged by the prize committee based on artistic merit, Jewish relevance and adherence to eligibility and project requirements.

The winner will be announced at the end of April and their film will be shown at the 2018 festival in September. They'll also receive the $500 Emerging Filmmaker's Prize, established in memory of JCC co-chair Dr. Peter Marcus.
