We Need Your Help to Stock the Pantry This Summer

It's already difficult to be a successful college student, but trying to reach your goals when you don't have enough to eat can make attaining your educational goals seem impossible. DCCCD is working to change that, but we need your help.

DCCCD and the North Texas Food Bank are working to make food available at all seven of our colleges through a fundraising effort called Stock the Pantry.

Food insecurity – a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life – is a problem in the United States. At DCCCD, 27% of our students reported "very low food security."

To curtail that, the DCCCD Foundation is raising money to make sure the mobile pantries – which are on our campuses throughout the year! – get the resources they need and to make sure the shelves remain full.

We're aiming to hit $5,000 by the end of the month. Here's the good news: We're more than halfway there! The bad news, of course, is that we haven't quite hit the goal yet, and that's where you come in.

You can donate to the campaign by May 31. Your donation will go toward purchasing canned goods for DCCCD students in need. It's that simple! 

Each of our colleges is also trying to raise $5,000. Here's where you can donate to your campus' effort to stock the pantry this summer: 

DCCCD and the North Texas Food Bank use a three-layer approach to tackle food insecurity on our campuses: 

  • Mobile pantry: A mobile pantry will continue to visit our campuses. The pantry provides fresh produce and "Just in Time" options for students.
  • SNAP and Social Service Assistance: An on-site coordinator will assist students applying for SNAP, CHIP, TANF and Medicaid benefits.
  • On-site pantry support: The pantry will provide access to NTFB nonperishable foods.
