Description: Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, Friendly Visitor Project - Students are referred as Friendly Visitors to one of 72 Dallas County long-term care homes. Friendly Visitors are individuals and groups who want to make a positive impact on the lives of older adults who live in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Dallas County. Friendly Visitors help combat the isolation and loneliness that is so prevalent in nursing homes by visiting and interacting with residents one-on-one or helping out with group activities such as games, art/crafts, parties or beautification projects. Friendly Visitors can volunteer on weekdays, weekends or on holidays. Youth under the age of 18 may require adult supervision. Criminal background check required prior to volunteering, which can take 3-15 business days. Call contact person to arrange orientation and placement.
For orientation details, please contact the agency.
