Routes typically take less than two hours with 12-15 stops per route. All meals must be delivered by 1:30pm. There are also special projects such as Healthy Snack Bag assembly, Holiday Gift Bag wrapping and bag assembly, and shelf-stable meal assembly throughout the year. Hospice & Palliative Care: Students can work in Direct Patient Care to provide patients with friendly visits in the home, caregiver relief and assistance with errands. Students can read a book, give a hug, play music or just be there to provide companionship. Students may also work with Bereavement Support and provide support to families after the death of their loved one via phone calls, visits, helping with luncheons and facilitating support groups. (An additional 4-hour training is required.) Students may also choose to work with Administration and assist with clerical duties to offer administrative support to VNA.
Potential Projects This Year: Potential projects may include delivering Meals on Wheels, assembling shelf-stable meals or Holiday Gift bags for clients, or assisting with the care of terminally ill patients with the VNA Hospice Care or VNA Care Choices programs. VNA has the flexibility and adaptability to create and execute many different projects depending on the interest of the group.
